Union Jack's Ale House
Editorial
Traditionally speaking, a Union Jack is the name for the British flag when flown at sea. When raised on land, it's known as the Union Flag. By that rationale, one could surmise that Union Jack's Ale House is a seafarer's delight. However, you'd be wrong if you were to expect sailors or pirates (complete with peg legs and parrots) on your maiden voyage to this bar. Union Jack's is a veritable bounty of ye olde UK delights, divided as it is into Irish, Scottish, English and Welsh sections. Choose your side carefully, and drink to the health of your brethren.
With decor ranging from sandstone walls and leather couches, to wooden furniture and sea-washed walls (to remind one of the ocean?), this pub is an ex-pat's dream. Fitting then, as the confines echo most weekends (and some week nights) with the English and Irish lilts of backpackers on the prowl. Providing cannon fodder for their advances is a mass of locals, all eager for a drop of Irish beer (Guinness or Kilkenny, anyone?) or English cider. Darwin only dreamed of such symbiosis.
On top of all this, the entertainment at Union Jack's - that's if you're not entertained by the mating rituals - is provided in the form of live State of Origin games, trivia nights and even games evenings.
