The Pavilion Bar

An al fresco drinking experience on par with the best in Europe.

Editorial

Part of the award-winning Stamford Plaza Hotel, the Pavilion bar offers casual drinks and meals for business clientele, cashed-up tourists and in-the-known locals. Spread over two levels, the bar is a standalone building adjacent to the main hotel. It mixes the Stamford's European charms with a subdued, contemporary edge. The main bar offers polished wooden floors, a long, marble bar, modern (minimal) furnishing and floor-to-ceiling windows. It's both casual and refined, the sort of place you can duck into for a lunchtime business meeting or something a little more ambitious on a Friday night.

Alternatively, there's an open-air courtyard flanked by the hotel's sandstone walls. This courtyard offers both al fresco dining and a relaxed environment to enjoy a warm Brisbane night. You'll find live music (of the laidback variety) on offer Friday and Saturday nights. And the drink selection walks a similarly fine line between upmarket and casual. There's a full cocktail menu on offer, covering all the classics, a selection of imported beers, top-shelf spirits and a good wine list. While it's not as expansive as a dedicated cocktail lounge, there's a good cross-section on offer and things are considerably cheaper than the formal cocktail lounge in the hotel proper.

It's also worth noting that Pavilion tends to fly under the radar. It doesn't advertise itself to the public and so you'll find a really diverse crowd on any given night. It's also one of the few inner-city bars worth attending on a Friday where you can find a little elbow space. Well worth the extra couple of blocks walk.
