Drinking while overlooking water is one of life's pleasures. Drinking at twilight, looking out to Story Bridge is one of Brisbane's great pleasures. The Shadow Lounge, located above the Jade Buddha, is a visual feast. There are views of the river, Kangaroo Points Cliffs, and as I mentioned, that glorious bridge. If you are fortunate enough to grab a seat on the deck of a Friday evening, guard it with your life.
Inside is not bad either. Neutral tones abound, which is clever, as nothing could compete with that vista, and the principles of Feng Shui have been employed to relax even the most world weary punter. It is impossible not to fall into a type of mediation after ten minutes on the deck while nursing an expertly made cocktail. Comfy wicker armchairs, large brown leather couches and ottomans provide ample seating, and candle light creates a soft ambience.
A mixed clientele gathers here of a weekend, and while this is most certainly a romantic spot, later in the evening the party does get started. A cool selection of tunes pumps out during the night, making sure the mood remains elevated. The staff are friendly and more than happy to guide you through their enticing cocktail list.
While the drinks are not cheap, they use quality ingredients and they use them well.
A great place to wind down from the week, dive into the weekend, or recover from both.
