Oshin Japanese Restaurant
Editorial
One of the best places in the CBD to detox with a bowl of miso and a green tea, Oshin is a quiet oasis of Japanese culture in the heart of Adelaide Street. Gentle folk music plays in the background, the minimalist space decorated with Japanese prints of geishas and cherry blossoms. A sushi bar takes up one side of the main dining room, and oriental screens partition off a more private area, its orange walls warmly lit by a hanging lantern.
The vast menu will suit the health conscious as well as those seeking the deep-fried side of Japanese cooking. Start with an assortment of nibblies like salted edamame (steamed green soy beans), fried whole baby shrimp and fresh beef sashimi. Perhaps the best way to experience Oshin is to select a variety of sushi rolls and entree-sized dishes, such as shumai (steamed crab dumplings), tonkatsu (deep-fried, crumbed pork morsels) and sakana no shioyaki (grilled mackerel steaks). Larger meals include udon or soba soups served with rice ball, spiced wafu steak with rice, miso soup and salad, and sushi chirashi (rice topped with slices of fresh raw seafood, served with consomme and savoury egg custard).

been to Oshin many times. Food is always great. Recommend the Sashimi plate, the Sushi plate and some tempura. The Miso that comes with it is excellently done. Also love the Wafu steak and washing it all down with an icy cold Kirin in a chilled glass. Well done, Oshin.
