Marco Polo Martini Bar
Editorial
While casinos are not generally known for their five-star restaurants, Marco Polo Martini Bar at the Treasury Casino bucks that trend. The restaurant has won a string of awards over the years and was named Best Restaurant in Australia (accommodation division) at the 2007 Australian Awards for Excellence. But the question is, do they mix a good martini?
The fit-out is upmarket - Marco Polo wouldn't look out of place in an issue of Wallpaper magazine. With high ceilings, suede seats, white linen tablecloths and a chocolate and beige colour scheme, the venue is certainly visually impressive. It also goes above and beyond with the menu. Melding east and west (hence the name), Marco Polo offers a separate Chinese menu with classics like shark fin soup and Peking duck. The western alternative offers contemporary options like teriyaki-marinated quail. Alternatively, you can have a lobster brought to your table for inspection before, well, you know the rest.
The wine list maintains the same high standard and the cellar boasts some genuinely rare and expensive options. Naturally, they have a full accompaniment of top-shelf spirits or you can always go with a beer if you prefer. While it's not the sort of venue you would duck into for a quick bite, Marco Polo is one of Brisbane's finest, melding five-star service with a refined atmosphere and great menu, plus a wine list worth writing home about. And, yes, they mix a mean martini.
