Jade Buddha

Oriental cocktails with stunning views of the sparkling Brisbane River make for a night to remember.

Editorial

Entering Jade Buddha feels like entering a Balinese temple; everything seems to be set up 'just so', with a certain mindfulness, and as I learn later, the space has been designed with Feng Shui principles in mind. The Jade Lounge sits right on the river, with magnificent views of the Kangaroo Point Cliffs, the Brisbane River and Story Bridge - making for a seriously romantic spot on those hot Brisbane nights with twinkling lights sparkling on the water.

Furniture and décor is a lush Asian mélange, including a Balinese-style water feature, bamboo ceilings, lush lighting, splashes of bold colour mixed with warm tones of gold, orange and red. A large golden Buddha statue reminds you to take the middle path - all things in moderation - except those delicious cocktails of course.

Upstairs is the Shadow Lounge area for more intimate cocktailing, with the same great views, and a chilled lounge and house music soundtrack.

There's a great selection of boutique local and international beers, and a decent wine list, but the Buddha's specialty is definitely cocktails. They say you can actually get closer to enlightenment with the Buddha Bliss - a divine concoction of Grand Marnier, yellow Chartreuse, lime, ginger, mint, and cloudy apple juice.

The restaurant menu is a fusion of Far East and the familiar West, a tad on the expensive side for nothing too special, with lots of fresh seafood, tasty (if a bit salty) noodles and sushi. Try the Balinese-style lamb with snow peas and toasted coconut for something different.

Tuesday evenings the resident psychic is on hand to deliver your destiny while you sip on a delightful cocktail. Friday nights can be crazy-busy with the after-work crowd, but Sunday afternoons are all about an open-air barbecue with $10 specials on grain-fed sirloin or Morton Bay Bugs, prawn and swordfish skewers, and chilled live jazz playing in the background.
