Good Knight Bar
If you've been looking for an inner-city venue to call your own the Good Knight Bar may well be the one. Located underneath Pancake Manor, it's laidback, out of the way, has a pool table, is half empty and run by staff who are happy to chat. Sure, the decor won't be winning any awards, but that's all part of the charm. With its Budweiser posters, booth seating and randomly placed wooden barrels, it almost feels like a US college frat bar, or at least the sort of place where everybody knows your name.
Like the location, clientele and fit-out, the drink selection isn't particularly sophisticated. Basically, you're looking at beers and pre-mixed spirits in cans and/or bottles. While there's not much in the way of variety, the prices are certainly appealing. Good Knight Bar must be one of the few places in the city CDB where you can still find Johnny Walker and dry in a can for around the $6 mark.
And that's the thing - this out of the way venue feels more like a private party than a city bar. With its faded decor, cheap prices and bar staff happy to reprogram the iPod playlist coming through the speakers, Good Knight Bar is like a home away from home. One that happens to serve pancakes 24 hours a day if you venture up the stairs.
