Editorial

The Green Mango is one of Bardon's hidden treasures, quite literally in fact. It is hidden off the street behind other establishments on MacGregor Terrace in this leafy, inner-city suburb. Though difficult to see from the street, it is not hard to find once you have parked your car - simply follow the alluring smells of fresh lime leaves, lemongrass and tamarind. Set in a cosy corner with candlelit, alfresco dining tables spilling out onto the veranda, or more private dining inside and upstairs, The Green Mango has lots to offer.

The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant and the food is a culinary delight - evident on most evenings by the large local crowd enjoying themselves. One of my favourite Thai dishes is the tom yum soup (spicy, sour soup with prawns) and I find sampling it is a good way to judge the quality of a Thai restaurant. The Green Mango does a fairly good tom yum, though perhaps not quite hot enough for my liking. The curries, particularly the mussaman and red duck curries, are spot on. There are many other tasty dishes to select from different sections of the menu, including seafood, noodles and vegetarian dishes.
