The Albion Hotel satisfies all urges for boutique beer, gaming and bistro food, all under the one stylish roof.

Editorial

It's a brave soul who attempts to take on the beer taps at the Albion Hotel. Not because they'll tear out your lungs and declare you a blaggard, but because of the sheer number of them. This bar may look humble, but try and work your way through the dozen or so boutique and local beers and you may reassess that opinion. Remember, Euro beers tend to have a higher alcohol percentage, so drink responsibly. Add to this some fine wine and a decent cocktail list, and you have a place you wouldn't be ashamed to invite your mates after work.

Sitting in the Cucina bar, the beating heart of the Albion, is nice enough. Long banquette seating gives way to marble-topped plinths, with large, open doors looking out onto Sandgate Road. It's easy enough to sit back and enjoy a wine, but most folks - the Albion attracts mid-20s to 40s - tend to stay on for a meal in the restaurant. And if conversation wanes after your post-dinner port, there's always the gaming floor if you feel like punching some buttons.

Kronenbourg, Becks, Stella and a plethora of other imports make up the tap beer roster, while the fridges bring up the rest of the ranks with local handcrafted brews. And you can get yourself a cocktail, although you might do well to visit a dedicated cocktail bar for anything exotic.
