Dragon Court, SKYCITY Darwin
Editorial
Once the sun plunges into the sea, our party sets off for Skycity’s beachside Dragon Court restaurant. It seems the perfect choice after an intimate beach wedding with frangipanis and a warm breeze. The happy couple who are holidaying from Sweden chose for its excellent Chinese cuisine, making it a regular choice for special occasions in Darwin.
Skycity is ablaze with lights and the vibe is festive. Dragon Court welcomes us with friendly courtesy and we’re seated at linen covered circular table, large enough to fit our group, yet small enough to ensure round-table conversation. The huge lazy Susan in the centre is where our banquet will be presented.
Dragon Court prides itself on authentic Chinese cuisine with chefs head-hunted from Hong Kong. The a la carte selection is so prolific that choosing can be difficult, but sharing banquet-style means we can taste many dishes.
Our starters are traditional - spring rolls, shark fin soup and san choy bow in crisp lettuce. For main the seafood platter bares fresh lobsters and piles of prawns, spicy duck has a delectable crispy skin, and stir-fried fresh vegetables are crunchy and refreshing. Local barramundi two ways is served deep fried and dressed with spicy coconut cream, while a lighter steamed version is fragrant with ginger and spring onion. Lychees with ice cream make a sweet finish for the perfect, celebratory dinner.
Dragon Court serves Chinese-cuisine favourites along with some traditional dishes that are all accentuated with great Top End produce.
