The Lord Dudley Hotel
Editorial
The Lord Dudley Hotel is a cute old brick building that looks as if it was gouged from old London town by the foundations and thrust back down in this beautiful Woolhara street. There's even red and green ivy crawling round the roof's edges for extra authenticity.
You can get pork pies and pickled eggs in the public bar and even play a game of darts. It's definitely a home away from home for the large Pom population in Sydney. Tradition seems to be imprinted in the very fabric of the place. As the typical Englishman's obsession (not to mention the Irish, Welsh and Scottish), there's a suitably extensive beer list to be had, with all the Aussie regulars and some UK highlights including Boddingtons.
The basement hides a fancier restaurant with a garden out back too, and the food's pretty decent, with a regularly changing menu scribbled on the black board every day. The Osso Bucco with mash and peas is a legendary heart warmer worth every penny. Upstairs there are two rooms for hire - the Guinness Room, which takes up to 100, and The Boardroom for a smaller, more intimate crowd or perhaps even a business meeting with that moniker.
Wherever you find your perch, the Lord Dudley is the sort of place that sees a bright afternoon slip slowly away into last orders before you even know it. May as well have one for the road then.
