La Botte da Ercole

La Botte is among the best neighbourhood eateries in Sydney; everyone's happy, you're always welcome and the food is simply delicious.

Editorial

The first time I ate at La Botte I was only sad that I hadn't had the good fortune to grow up with this as my childhood local. The second time I ate there I was singing happy birthday to a patron at the back of the room, along with the entire restaurant, and I felt like I had dined there my whole life. The decor is traditional Italian restaurant, with blackboards, open kitchen (with requisite pizza oven) and faded tones of red, white and green. It's noisy in the best possible way, as children talk over their parents, and parents talk over their parents - generations of loyal devotees who treat this restaurant as an extension of their own kitchen.

The food is exquisite. This is real mamma food - made by pappa. Ercole is the backbone of the establishment, warmly welcoming each new customer regardless of how busy the restaurant is. Couples with children will find contentment in the pasta, pizza and veal dishes that dominate the menu. They are all traditionally composed and incredibly tasty. Couples without children delight in specially prepared crayfish or the squid hotpot with mushrooms resting in a delectable buttery sauce; dishes you won't find on the menu, yet in contrast to so many restaurants, whims are accommodated wherever possible at La Botte.

Always feels like coming home. Food is a cut above what would be expected from a neighbourhood restaurant.
