An evening here sampling the beer list over a pot of their famous mussels with friends is nothing to be scoffed at.

Editorial

Remember when beer was the poor man’s drink? There was a time when it was unthinkable to accompany a meal with beer, even for Asian food - those days are long gone. Now there are beer halls, specialty micro-brewers and beer aficionados by the dozen.  Given all this, it’s no surprise the Heritage Belgian Beer Café at the Rocks is doing very nicely.

Based on the traditional Belgian Cafes, the Heritage Belgian Beer Cafe is a grand place that features lots of mahogany-stained solid oak, which gives it a decidedly masculine and old school feel.  Engraved bar stools, bevelled mirrors, and those vintage beer posters all help to convince you may have stepped back into the early 20th century. And then there is the sheer scale of the place.

Size does matter here, as they cater for the masses. Large groups, after work celebrations, and birthdays are big here. If you’re after a quiet ale then venture to Heritage early in the week only.

The age of the punters is across the board, however, it can get a little on the meet market side, especially after several of their superb ales.

From draught to artisan beers to Trappiste (made by Belgium Monks), to the adventurous brews from Timmermans, their range is simply spectacular. There are of course the well known staples such as Stella Artois, but why not try a Kwak – created in 1791, or a Framboise Lambic-raspberry beer. Fantastic!
