Blu Bar on 36
Editorial
WOW. That's probably the first thing you're going to say upon stepping out of Blu Bar on 36's private express lift from the lobby of the Shangri La Hotel in the Rocks. The simply stunning view offers a panoramic perv right down the spine of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Even if the bar was a dump, it would almost still be worth an evening up here amongst the stars.
Thankfully, Blu Bar on 36, formerly Blu Horizon, is anything but a dump. In fact, it's utterly beautiful. What more can be said about its gorgeous cherry wood floors, floor to ceiling panoramic windows, dark wood furniture and marble bar? It looks like an art deco palace from the heyday of Hollywood, all chic and style and minimal charm. You can even order a Diamond Martini if you want to make it a night to remember. It comes complete with a one-carat Tiffany diamond ring at the bottom of the glass (only $10,000 a shot).
Of course, you don't have to be Rupert Murdoch to hang out here. Early in the week Sky High cocktail specials include any tall cocktail for only $15 between 5-9pm Monday to Wednesday. The nine to five crowd can often be spotted post-work, and the weekends feature DJ sets. This is a five-star bar, and they know how to make a martini, that's for sure.
