V Bar

A multi-culti, multi-purpose monument to Sydney’s fluid present.

Editorial

Depending on your mood, your needs and the space-time continuum, V Bar might provide the answer to your hospitality prayers. Then again, at 3am on a Thursday morning, its boom-boom-boom of happy house music might put you off your daiquiri.

Then again, you're kicking around the bottom end of the CBD on a school night. What on earth did you expect?

Actually, in a town relatively under-serviced by late-closers, you might reasonably expect to hear Cold Chisel's Flame Trees on the jukebox at that hour. Or, you might expect to meet a gaggle of Aussie ganders up from the shire for the night. This, until recent years, has been the sound and feel of late night Sydney. This joint offers something a little less rowdy.

While V Bar might not sincerely be described as sophisticated, it can certainly be called cosmopolitan. Importantly, it does feel a touch safer than some of the city's late night competition.

The place does attempt to position itself in the chic cocktail lounge category. The cocktails are fine, the food is decent and the staff are accommodating. Ultimately, any place with such exhausting hours is inclined to be a bit more utilitarian than stylish.
