A royal prince (or princess) is not on the list, but you never know your luck as you slip into the pumping vibe at the Slip Inn.

Editorial

Famous for being the venue of that fateful meeting of 'our' Mary Donaldson and the Danish Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark (at an after-party for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games), the Slip Inn is considered a bit of a good luck charm by sophisticated single gals in their mid-20s - which is good news for the local lads, no doubt.

There are three bars within: The Garden Bar is great for those lazy afternoon drinks to enjoy some sparkling bubbles as the sun heads for the horizon. The Sand Bar is for relaxed and sophisticated cocktails, and lounging to chilled tunes with stylish ottomans and sandstone walled ambience. The Slip Main Bar is a pub scene with a long hardwood bar, and yet with a contemporary feel, I loved the strong orange-red colour scheme and muted lighting. Beers on tap include Tooheys, Carlton Draught, Coopers, Hahn Super Dry and James Squire varieties. There's a respectable wine list with most Australian and NZ labels, but a few Spanish, Italian and French drops thrown in for good measure.

Feeling peckish after all that schmoozing for a prince or princess? There's some tasty Asian-inspired treats from the Slip Kitchen, including the Jewfish Goan Red Curry, a southern Indian curry with basmati rice. Or if you need a carb'n'cheese hit, there's gourmet pizzas ($6 on Mondays) like the Portuguese with peri peri chicken, pumpkin, spinach and yogurt.

Three dance clubs also pump up the vibe on Friday and Saturday nights: Cave, Good Vibrations and the Chinese Laundry - one of the biggest and longest running clubs in Sydney town. The lush Asian-inspired décor is nothing at all like a laundry. I love the gold Buddha statues that greet you at the door, making quite the grand entrance into the ultimate club experience - three rooms with an outside courtyard for open-air chillin', killer sound system, and fresh DJs playing the most cutting edge tunes. So seriously, bring your dancing shoes.
