Metro Theatre

As the live music scene in Sydney dies a slow venue-by-venue death, (all vale the Hopetoun), all we can say is thank god for the Metro!

Editorial

Nestled on the daggy end of George Street amongst the cinemas, pinny parlours and the fast food outlets is one of Sydney's coolest music venues, which has been packing them in since 1993.

The Metro caters across all musical genres, from all forms of dance music, acoustic solo shows, fist pumping DJs to fully amped up rock'n'roll shows from local, interstate and international acts.

When you find out that your favourite band is playing at the Metro, it's a bit of a 'whoo hoo' moment. Intimate enough venue that you can stand at the bar and still see your favourite band pumping out tunes on the great Nexo Alpha sound system, but big enough with its 1400 punter capacity that big guns can still play here when they're in town.

Some of the acts to have graced the Metro stage in recent times include Muse, Placebo, The Eels, Alex Lloyd, Damien Rice, Gomez, The Dandy Warhols, Eskimo Joe, The Hives, Beth Orton, and The Stereophonics.

Pink chose it for an up close and personal show after her performance at the ARIA's in 2008 and MTV use The Metro for live music show The Lair, billed as “one of the biggest live local music series produced in Australia”. And if you miss you favourite gig? Then log on www.moshcam.com, which has filmed some incredible concerts at The Metro and proudly bring you them absolutely free.

On the 28.05.2009 i watch door man take over 50 tickets off people saying 'they were to intoxicated' & were denied access to the 'Cradle of Filth' concert. The people didn't look that drunk! It was a death metal concert - did you really expect a prim & proper crowd to attend the show!!!!!!!

so true but you see this at so many venues, its not the venues that choose to do this, its the licensing police putting the pressure on these places.
