This stately pile of sandstone is a history museum now old enough to have a history of its own. Begun in the early part of the nineteenth century by the colony’s elite, its function has been expanded many times over the decades. From its past purpose as a showcase for botany to its current expertise in geo-diversity and indigenous archaeology, the ambitions of the museum continue to flower.
