Bungalow 8

Named after Amy Saco's ultra-glamorous New York nightclub, Bungalow 8 fortunately doesn't limit its clientele to celebrities, although dressing and acting like one undoubtedly helps. There's certainly a touch of Manhattan nights about this waterside hot spot. Surrounded by city lights and the sparkling harbour, it's a glitzy venue that punters will happily queue for. The glass-fronted exterior houses a large but often jam-packed bar, with split bamboo ceilings and globular lights providing that urban cabana feel.
Alfresco tables on the deck are often full at lunchtimes with CBD workers and passers-by who stop to sun themselves, sip chardonnay and admire the harbour. Bungalow 8 has garnered a reputation for its Belgian-style kilo mussel pots. Served in five different flavours with crusty baguettes, when paired with chunky chips and stout ale, this may well be the drinking food of the gods. White wine cream, tom yum and provencale are among the choices for this wicked finger food. The rest of the menu is also decidedly seafood-flavoured. It's upmarket pub fare at OK prices for the location. The salt and pepper squid is recommended, as are the share platters, which include seafood, mixed canapes and cheese. A concise local wine list and a fine selection of draught and premium beers should keep you going long after the last mussel is fished from the pot.
