Townhouse Bar & Restaurant
Editorial
The Townhouse Hotel tries a lot harder than most hotel bars to cram in some character, in an admirable show of individuality, but alas it's still just a big space off of the foyer. Situated as it is in the Surry Hills Sebel, it's never going to be the first choice of the glamour brigade, and that's a shame in a way.
The space is certainly beautiful, with polished wooden floor boards, white leather armchairs and sleek bench tables. The bar's adorned with fresh flowers and the walls with signed photographs of the rich and famous who stepped over at the Elizabeth Bat hotel the bar borrows its name for. I guess there in lies the rub. This isn't the glamorous original, just a pretty facade borrowing the glory of a name.
Kudos to them, there are no less than 12 beers on tap, as well as lengthy and impressive cocktail and wine lists. If you get an attack of the munchies, menu highlights include marinated lamb shanks, pumpkin and ricotta cannelloni and a tasty chilli chicken burger. There just isn't much atmosphere to be had. No atmosphere, perhaps, but definitely a good place to drink if you happen to be staying upstairs.
