Porterhouse Hotel
Editorial
Inner Sydney is well known for its abundance of corner pubs, a lot of which appear alike, but as the saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover, or appropriately, a pub by its facade. Behind the walls of each and every pub lies a different and unique set of pleasures – something for everyone you might say (being Sydney, chances are you may stumble into a bar-top drag show). The name suggests a steak barn, but at the Porterhouse you are more likely in for an Irish stew or a Yorkshire pudding as this is an Irish pub in the heartland of Sydney’s hip Surry Hills.
In fact, the Porterhouse holds its own with Irish breakfasts, beef and Guinness pies, pints of Kilkenny brew or Bulmers Irish cider and plenty of good old ‘craic’ to go ‘round. Dorm style accommodation upstairs ensures that the steady flow of customers visiting Sydney from Ireland feel at home in affordable and familiar cosy comfort.
With Fox Sports on tap, customers are assured of a fair dose of ‘game on’ action and consequent celebratory (or commiserate) drinking action. In Surry Hills and neighbouring Darlinghurst, you’ll never feel in danger of becoming ‘Irished out’ after a visit to the Porterhouse, for Sydney’s full-bodied cultural experience is at your doorstep. Even if Irish flavour is not what you seek, it won’t do you any harm to dip your big toe into the Porterhouse. It might not be addictive, but it sure will be hard not to like it.
