Lumiere
Editorial
In a world where names are often thrown around with gay abandon, with little or no real meaning behind them, it's nice that Lumiere actually makes sense. This beautiful little cafe perched just off of Bourke Street in St Margaret's Village is a light-filled treat, with floor to ceiling glass walls framing this kooky corner spot. There are plenty of dinky little designer stools perched outside too if you want to make the most of the afternoon sun.
Of course, being slap bang in the heart of Surry Hills, you are in trendy central, and the cafe is always packed with an assortment of ridiculously beautiful men, which can be a tad overwhelming on occasion, and ever so occasionally the staff are packing attitude too. Best to flirt with them for maximum attention. The Schibello coffee will soon dispel any reservations you may have, as they make a beautiful latte - not easy to find in Sydney.
The food aint shabby too. It's all about the hotcakes here - quite possibly the best I've had in Oz. Chef Buster Brown and owner Victor Hulewicz struck on a genius idea and combined a patisserie with the cafe, so you can buy a chock load of yummy cakes and breads to take home too.
