Cru54
Editorial
Wow. Cru54 has been around for a few years now and the fact that it has survived in its reasonably difficult locale is testament to its quality and value. On entering the long, thin dining room you are immediately struck by the urban-oasis atmosphere, and by its sense of calm despite being only metres from a major thoroughfare. And of course, the bar ...
Pitched as a tapas bar with French influence, Cru54 has its market tightly honed. The wine list is unbelievably reasonable and features a steady mix of Australian and European (mostly French and Spanish) wines. The Aussie drops are boutique mixes, and obscure enough to intrigue even the most ardent wine lover. Unlike most of its competitors, Cru54 offers a good selection by the glass and the staff are truly passionate about helping you make the right, bibulous decision. Glasses are generous and bottle pouring is attentive and warm. Really, it's bliss.
The tapas is also a winner. Tasty morsels of cured meats and aged cheese flow from the tiny kitchen. All are delivered with a sense of victory and apprehension from the staff that you'll be as excited about the flavor sensation as they are. It's quite lovely. Basically, Cru54 is ideal for a romantic dinner, or perfect for just catching up. It's intimate, reasonable and the value is superb. Come early so you can maximize the art of slow eating at its best.
