Coffee, Tea or Me
Editorial
When Neil and Kristina Maccabee opened Coffee, Tea or Me? 18 months ago, the idea was to bring a bit of character and European charm to the venue, and that they have. Candy-striped awnings, rough wooden furniture, and unique decorations (including polaroids of customers’ dogs) imbue this cafe with its own distinct personality. With lots of regular clientele (including chefs on their days off) the cafe has a friendly local feel about it. But the lack of pretension does not mask the fact that this is a foodie destination, something that has not escaped the attention of the SMH Good Living and local tea connoisseurs.
The tea is the main event, sourced from tea houses all over the world including Prince Charles’ Duchy Originals and the Parisian Mariage Freres. The staff is enthusiastic about your tea education, and will encourage you to smell, taste and try new products. The menu has a distinctly continental feel with baguettes, pastries and sandwiches taking centre stage, while freshly baked treats tempt from under glass cake stands. You’ll find some unusual items stocked, such as Pat and Stick’s ice-cream sandwiches, as the owners are always on the lookout for interesting new products. The friendly service and attention to quality means this little cafe leaves a large impression.
