In 1984, the former Nimrod Theatre was saved from demolition by a syndicate of 600 Sydney arts and culture identities. Still an artist-run enterprise, Belvoir Street hosts edgy, contemporary and politically engaged Australian theatre. Its two stages – Upstairs and Downstairs – have nurtured Australian theatrical superstars and still foster emerging talent.
