The 3 Weeds Hotel
Editorial
The 3 Weeds Hotel has a reputation for a reason. It is truly one of the most beautifully kept, most sophisticated bar/bistros in the inner west. On entering the 3 Weeds for the first time you might be overwhelmed by the space. Themed somewhere between old-school boozer, gentleman's lounge, drawing room and afternoon tea, the Weeds is as beautifully appointed as its beer list is varied. There's loads of space and the church-like ceilings give the illusion of more, but the warmth of the decor never makes this feel empty. Despite the size, the Weeds could be the local watering hole.
The wine list is sharp and varied without being verbose. The selection is rounded and clear but you won't be overwhelmed by sauvignon blancs or underwhelmed by chardonnay. The wines are mostly Australian, but there's an interesting mix of European drops if you feel like something different. The Italian Ronco del Gelso 'Sot lis Rivis' pinot grigio is delicious. If you prefer hops, there are plenty of boutique beers on offer too.
The 3 Weeds Hotel is a space that demands a visit, whether it's to make a day of it in their second-to-none bistro or just lounge around in front of the fireplace in their living room. It's the perfect blend of sophistication and casualness - a kind of nonchalance that only the inner-west can pull off. It's suitable for kid, parents and grandparents; the staff will make you feel welcome no matter what your story is. It's not hard to see why this one has become an icon.
