Chocol'Art Cafe
Editorial
Until recently, the fairly unattractive Belmore Road had a fairly unattractive choice of takeaway coffee options, which is why Chocol’Art was noticed for its coffee first and chocolate second. Apparently they don’t employ staff, they employ baristas who have been taught exactly how to handle the signature grind (a more-ish blend with a woody aroma and light caramel finish). Once you’re hooked on the coffee you’ll start to notice the other offerings of Chocol’Art: handmade pralines in display cases, coffee-befriending pastries, and cocoa-heavy cakes. And if you are familiar with Max Brenner’s sexy little cafes the rest will sound familiar: waffles doused in Belgian chocolate, mugs of hot chocolate spiked with chilli, chocolate fondue, or the popular Maya (dark, milk or white Belgian chocolate buttons added to hot milk, bubbling over a tea light).
The similarities with Max Brenner are not a bad thing (clearly Sydneysiders like their chocolate) and in a city obsessed with coffee it is a pleasure to find a hot chocolate that isn’t made from brown powder. The comfy cafe is also open all year round (public holidays be damned) till 10pm weeknights and 11pm Friday and Saturday nights. Perfect for a late night date.
