Lyric Theatre Star City Casino
Editorial
The Lyric is an impeccably designed 2000 seater contrived to make everyone, performers included, snug. Here, the mobility and hearing-impaired will also find a good level of comfort. (Do call 02 9657 8500 for access enquiries prior to performance.)
The only tradition of comfort staff at The Lyric don't seem to respect is the lock-out. Casinos tend to have a little more forbearance for the tipsy, the late and the rowdy. So, if some bloke bellows, “A crown, thanks love” while Tony Bennett hits a high note, don't be overtly surprised.
In casino-fashion, the acts here tend to cater to the camp or nostalgic taste. And that can be a wonderful thing. Particularly if, like us, you love nothing more thanVegas lounge acts inches from retirement. The enormously successful musical Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert, both camp and nostalgic, had its first staging right here.
In the unlikely case you don't have a cheery night at the theatre, there's always the prawn-tastic buffet.

Why when you advertise a lockout do you not adhere to this? We missed a part of Candy Man yesterday with people finding their seats after the show had commenced. This also happened when we attended Mama Mia. The intoxicated man beside me was allowed to constantly access the bar (returning each time with a glass of beer in both hands)which made my experience horrible.

Saw Tommy Emmanuel play last night at the Lyric Theatre. Loved his music. Hated the venue. The casino vibe permeated too much. The lines at the elevators (to/from parking) were endless, as were the lines at the machines to pay for parking. Being 11 minutes late meant $35 for parking instead of the expected $20. BIG RIP-OFF at Star City parking lot. The restaurant meals cost $4o to $120, except at the Fuel Bar. It was a very expensive venue for a concert. Will NEVER go back for ANY show. And about half the staff were neutral to rude when we interacted with them, asking for directions or needing to show ID (our daughter is 23 and she was continually asked for ID as we went in and out of the gambling areas trying to find restaurants. If you hate waiting and paying high prices, try to see your entertainment elsewhere.

Start city casino parking $25 for less than 2hours. What a rip-off. That is the last $25 I spend there. Never ever again I will set foot in there.

Email:lorraine_frankel@hotmail.com My Husband and I were given a wonderful gift by our children to attend Sunday 13 Feb. production of Dr.Zhivago 3 rows from the front at the Lyric Theatre. We attended sure we were in for a real treat which we were production wise, but the heat in the theatre was totally unbearable. Both Audience and Actors were perspiring profusely. Some of the audience including outselves were nodding off periodically and am quite surprised that nobody fainted. When you pay such high prices for tickets, one expects first class comfort. I have reported the matter also to Mr. John Thompson of the Lyric Theatre and sincerely hope the matter will be attended to a.s.p.
