High above the pints and the pokies of Parramatta Leagues Club, Tingha Palace is a welcome oasis of Asian cuisine. Perpetually packed with locals and yum cha fiends, this exotic escape enchants diners with an alluring interior of deep reds and embellished timber. Goldfish dance in in-built tanks as red lanterns flutter above. The dining room and terrace can accommodate up to 400 guests, and yet even mid-week lunch-time sees the seats as full as the yum cha carts.
Tingha Palace has been treating Parramatta locals to Chinese chow for many a year, moving from the original Church Street premises to the Leagues Club in 2007. Although now located a little further from the centre of the city, Tingha Palace has maintained its high standards and popular menu. Pop in for lunch when you can make a selection from the a la carte menu or feast on the highly sought-after yum cha. With up to 100 different choices on the yum cha menu every day, fill up on all the popular favourites, such as steamed buns, dumplings, har gow and egg tarts. Dinner sees guests choosing from the extensive a la carte menu, which includes the restaurant favourite Peking duck, plus a lengthy list of seafood, poultry, noodle, soup and barbecue dishes. Groups of six are wise to select from the three banquet options for a varied taste of Asia. Avoid the queues by booking ahead.
