Albion Hotel
Editorial
The Albion is one of those huge all-in-one bars that Sydney has made its drinking name on. Located in the satellite CBD, Parammatta, it draws a slightly different crowd compared to the inner-city venues who are no less up for a good time. Its major draw card is the beer garden. It's huge - apparently seating up to 500 revelers at any one time. Even better, you can choose to park yourself on a bar table, in a banquette or in the shade of the outdoor pavilion for those scorching Sunday afternoon.
The drinks on offer are typical of any large-scale establishment. Of course, they have everything from Beefeater to bourbon, VB to Becks. You get the impression that this is very much a 'beers for boys, vodka sunrise for the ladies' kind of place. No matter, the booze snobs will find something to tickle their fancy. And if not, there's always pub squash. The Tavern Bar is inside and seems to cater for the old boys and those with an aversion to sunlight. It's kitted out with a TAB and a few big screens for the games lovers.
Of course, there's a nightclub upstairs. The Gasworks, like the rest of the Albion has heaps of space for anyone wanting to bust some moves, and there are music and DJs on almost every night. Friday and Saturday nights it's open till 5am, so make sure you get in a siesta before hitting the dancefloor. The Albion is a great place if you want a beer in the sun and don't want your thongs unplugging on the bar floor on your way out.
