Tiger Mottle

A little gem of a café that marries location, coffee and great food perfectly.

Editorial

It took a while for the coffee scene to take off in Sydney and our southern relatives took great delight in dishing out on our inferior brews. Those days are long gone and Tiger Mottle in Paddington is testament to this.

Situated in the gorgeous, leafy green serenity of Paddington, near the Fiveways, location is the first of many good things about Tiger Mottle. Coffee at this café has become an institution, and the owners take great pride in their coffee know-how and inventiveness.

While some of their concoctions will raise many a coffee purists' eyebrow, the Maple Mottle, (double ristretto, shot of maple, dusting of chilli, topped with cream and dark chocolate), sure sounds, and tastes, like fun. They use Golden Cobra beans which are developing quite the fan-base.

Tiger Mottle is a small and cosy café with a laid back atmosphere. Locals flock here not just for the coffee or the fact that staff remember how they like their coffee, but for the food.

The breakfast menu holds such delights as banana or ginger bread served with maple yoghurt, the Fancy Pants Bacon and Egg Sandwich served with relish, aioli and rocquet and Billy's Bubble and Squeak.

For lunch a good selection of grilled flat bread sandwiches and brilliantly fresh salads, such as the Tiger Mottle Salad - grilled polenta, rocquet, asparagus, roasted capsicum, avocado and feta, keep everyone happy.

For those who like their coffee cold, the Mottle Milkshake - a thick coffee milkshake with lots of ice-cream, is a decadent little treat.

To top things off the prices are reasonable, which is a pleasant change for this neck of the woods.
