Rose Shamrock & Thistle
Editorial
The Rose, Shamrock and Thistle, much more commonly known as the Three Weeds, is a quiet oasis located perfectly between the Darlinghurst and Paddington ends of Oxford Street, and just the right distance between neighbouring bars for those who like to pub crawl. It's an extremely slick yet beautifully unpretentious watering hole for those who want a quiet but sexy drink. The lighting is very conducive to sultry whispers and subtle hair tossing, as is the extensive list of wines available by the bottle or glass. Tasty and mess-free morsels are available too, mostly in tapas style, for drawing more attention to the mouth.
But it's not just a light-hearted romp. The Three Weeds is an historic sight which still breathes the very soul of turn-of-the-century inner Sydney. The tiles and wooden bench tops give the decor a classic quality, while the little rooms out the back give it an intimacy generally not found in this neck of the woods.
The crowd is arty and sophisticated. The fine arts campus of one of Sydney's biggest universities is a stone's throw away, and all those creatives who came for inspiration between classes don't ever seem to have left. It's the perfect bar for intense conversation.
