As one of the suburb's most popular watering holes, the Paddington Inn sprawls across a corner block on Oxford and William Streets, harbouring two bars and some fantastic pub grub. The revamped interior fills two levels, with booths and benches below and cosy seating upstairs on the mezzanine level. Casual yet stylish, this fashionable hangout is an ideal setting for a catch-up with friends or a private function. Bistro fare is available for both lunch and dinner, accompanied by a tempting range of wine, beer and cocktails. Spend a lazy weekend afternoon perched at the open windows, downing a few cleansing ales and a plate of gastro pub fare, or pop in early evening for some nibbles with cocktails or wine.
Lunch on a sandwich loaded with fillet steak, baby spinach, oven-dried tomatoes and onion jam, with a side of fries and aioli, or perhaps a lighter salad of witlof, apple, blue cheese and prosciutto. Pick from a plate of dips and toasted sourdough, or salt-and-pepper calamari, or find a delicious wine accompaniment in the form of a daily tasting platter. Maybe you're hankering after beer-battered fish with fries, or take pleasure in twirling into a bowl of spaghettini with prawns, parsley, chilli, lemon and rocket. An alfresco area is partitioned off in the centre of the building, blending cleverly with the Inn's spacious interior. Kick on into the night with a game of pool or a cheeky cocktail, and return for a lazy Sunday afternoon at the weekly “ooh la la” event, when live music lures in the locals.
