Editorial

The suits of North Sydney have been trying to keep The Living Room a secret for a while now but it's time to blow their cover. The crowning glory of the Greenwood Plaza, The Living Room is both a welcoming space offering modern Australian cuisine and a cosy spot to drop into for a drink away from the hustle and bustle of the street below. Wood-panelled walls surround a spacious dining floor, while an inviting lounge area brings to mind a much loved, slightly quirky Blue Mountains weekender. Its coffee tables hold tattered copies of Encyclopaedia Britannica and comfy couches lie patiently, waiting for you to park your derriere and relax with a glass of wine. An old television set converted into a fish tank is an interesting talking point but please don't ask if you can have the little goldfish grilled as the fish of the day; it's for viewing pleasure only.

An open-plan kitchen is where all the action takes place, with generous servings of top notch modern Australian cuisine being ferried to tables by affable floor staff. Begin with Turkish bread accompanied by marinated olives and a selection of dips before moving on to an entree of pork belly with green apple and baby herb salad or the tempura king prawns with wasabi soy dipping sauce. The Living Room does a mean steak; John Dee scotch fillet and Black Angus sirloin both make an appearance on the menu but the free range Aylsbury duck breast with leek parcel and orange jus is tasty enough to tempt the most devoted red meat eater. Finish with the molten chocolate baby cake and you'll see why the North Sydney corporate types have been trying to keep The Living Room all to themselves.
