Cool, modern lines meet comfortable design in this swish, little bar. Stick around for an evening treat and watch the cocktails roll.

Editorial

You might be forgiven for detecting the lightest hint of safari when you enter the Terrace Hotel on North Sydney's Mount Street. Lightly toasted tiger hues blend fitfully into the interweaving wooden d??cor and carpet stripes. The design almost helps you get to the bar with greater economy. But there the safari impression evaporates - especially once the office workers take ownership of the terrace during the working weekday. Try wearing khaki then and you'll be lonely.

The alfresco terrace balcony is, of course, the main drawcard. It provides a comfortable, shaded area to indulge in a spot of lunch and a bottle of wine while chatting above the activity of Mount Street. The modern styled menu is largely Asian inspired, with a good selection of Thai, including a number of curries and stir-fries. Rest assured, the staples are still around too - fish and chips, club sandwich and a recommended rump steak.

There is a large selection of wines (mainly Australian) by the glass, and a good range of local and imported boutique beers. Mid-week also sees mid-priced cocktails. The Terrace also has three large screens for sports events, as well as regular badge draw cash prizes for members. Once the buttons have been loosened a little towards the end of the week, the Terrace also has a consistent play of funk inspired DJs, and on Friday nights the bar is opened until 3am. Perhaps try wearing your khaki then. Let us know how it goes.
