Luna Park, Sydney
Editorial
With free entry and unlimited rides when you purchase a Luna Park day pass or Annual Pass, it is no surprise this iconic Sydney theme park welcomed its three millionth visitor in July 2009.
One of Sydney's most famous landmarks, Luna Park first opened its doors in October 1935, but after a tragic fire ripped through the Ghost Train in 1979, the park was closed indefinitely. Amid many attempts to reopen, it took another 20 years, and over a $100million spent on reconstruction and new rides until Luna Park finally sprung to life again in 2004.
Luna Park has retained its classic rides and artistic character. You can step back in time to Coney Island, one of Australia's only authentic 1930s fun houses with giant slides, a Ye Olde Turkey Trot and a Joy Wheel; test your driving skills on the Dodgems; check out the ever-changing live entertainment in The Big Top; or take in Sydney's spectacular views on the giant Ferris Wheel.
If you are up for some hair-raising action, jump on the Wild Mouse and hurl along 400metres of track; spin 360 degrees in the futuristic Ranger pirate ship; or get your thrills on the Flying Saucer, Spider or Hurricane.
There are also daily performances including the Stilt Walking Red Coats, as well as the Lunabob and Lunabelle show; kids' workshops; and themed carnivals during school holidays.
