Observatory Hill Park
Editorial
As the name entails, the Sydney Observatory is the star attraction, although it does compete with majestic fig trees and stunning views. However, with its virtual reality 3-D space theatre, shop, lecture theatre, historic 29cm lens telescope (circa 1874), a 42cm computer controlled telescope and hydrogen-alpha solar telescope, the Observatory certainly holds its own and is worth a visit both day and night. Here's an idea for the perfect picnic - a late late/early dinner incorporating what's usually a spectacular sunset, followed by a visit to the Observatory to see views of the moon, the planets and the of course, the stars. There is no onsite parking here, making the trip possibly a little more complicated, but ultimately very special.
