The Bower Restaurant
Editorial
On the breezy stretch between Manly and Shelly Beach, the Bower sits smugly at the halfway point, attracting diners hungry from a day spent in the surf. Here where children feast on bowls of golden fries and press their noses up against the ice cream cabinet, the Bower captures all the spirit of a happy family outing.
Cheerful Spanish tunes play through the whitewash restaurant as couples share plated mounds of crunchy whitebait over wine. On this bright and sunny summer lunch, we enjoy the shade with the view of bathers frolicking in the waves in the distance. Our table is graced with the colourful creation of sliced king prawns layered with avocado salsa and bean sprouts, but the chilli jam lacks the punch that would make it a great starter. Rosemary and lemon infused spatchcock with cavallo nero and garlic-roasted chat potatoes make a pleasant alternative to a seafood-driven menu, but with an ocean view and a glorious sea breeze, who could turn down herb-crusted Atlantic salmon or five-spice squid? Dukkah-spiced barramundi is served on potato mash which is a phantom from the menu, while the 'citrus salad' is more like a mandarin garnish. However the crunchy Dukkah crust that soaks up yoghurt and mint dressing is a treat and the service, sweet and attentive.
The Bower Restaurant is a family friendly restaurant where every table enjoys front-row seats to the view, and is served seafood so fresh it could have been caught at the restaurant's waterfront doorstep.

Terrible terrible terrible. Fond memories be-gone, they have been replaced with an awful experience here. With the exception of the beer battered fish and chips, food was terrible and didn't even match the menu description, the waitstaff confused, the toilets were FILTHY and the owner was downright strange. Don't waste your money there are better places with just as good a view.

I too had a disappointing experience here- the comment from kj2010 sums it up well. I won't be going back.
