Sugar Lounge
Editorial
With the subtle scent of coconut and the taste of fruity cocktails inspired by a tiki theme, Sugar Lounge feels like a little piece of Hawaii. The relaxed beachside bar embodies casual cool and quirky style, where you can retire from a day spent at the beach. Inside, the lounge is low lit with acoustic music lulling in the background. Dark leather banquettes line the walls and cane lounges host relaxed guests. The bar shelf is a jumble of tropical spirits with the occasional floral lei draped over bottles. As night time takes over, the relaxed atmosphere grows into buzzing excitement as the music goes up a couple of notches and the acoustic guitar strings are swapped for lounge beats.
A few of the guests sit around outdoor tables with cocktails and sandy feet as they watch the final moments of the sunset. The girls sip on Raspassion Mojitos; shaken concoctions of Cruzan and crème de framboise smashed with fresh passion fruit, raspberries, lime, mint and sugar. The guys fresh from surfing enjoy stronger flavours of the Black Daquiri made with Myers' dark Jamacian rum, shaken with soft brown sugar and balanced with pressed lime and bitters.
The Cuban burger of chorizo sausage, jalapeño and cream-stuffed portobello mushroom satisfies an ocean sized appetite with wholesome curly fries and coleslaw. The chicken quesadilla pizza of chicken, roasted capsicum and melted cheese is a popular favourite with the locals and is served with jalapeño jam, guacamole and sour cream on the side.
With a Hawaiian vibe and a cool and friendly atmosphere, this is the perfect beachside spot to go for a summer sundowner that stretches long past sunset.
