Safety Wolf Bar & Cantina
Editorial
Safety Wolf Bar and Cantina is a rare bird in Manly. Neighboured by bars with reputations for infamy rather than intuition, Safety Wolf blends sophistication with share-house chic, great wine and excellent tunes. Like most small and ultra-cool bars, Safety Wolf is difficult to find. Once you've mastered this initial challenge and parked yourself in one of the (only) dozen or so tables, the wait staff will tend to your every need in ways not often seen in this part of town.
The menus arrive disguised as children's books. The Little Engine That Could proffers a small but interesting selection of tapas, including something called Golden Roughey Parcels, outstanding ribs and some tasty chorizo. Everything is delicious, and while the wait can be reasonable, it's well worth it. The wine list is a small but sophisticated mix of Aussie and international drops. The reds in particular are notable, not to mention reasonably priced. As always though, you're much better off buying the bottle, so leave the car at home.
The cocktails are where the Latino/Spanish influence comes out. The El Diablo is an intriguing but ultimately successful combination of Herradura silver tequila, Chambord, lime juice and ginger beer. It's a bargain too at less than a six pack - bring on Summer. Safety Wolf is cool, cool, cool - so if you prefer a big screen and a cold hard beer, it's probably not for you. Come here if you appreciate the aesthetic of ripped jeans and designer flannelette.

Loved it. Cheers & chilled tunes on a warm summers' evening & the quirky opp-shop decorations just add to the fun. Not for the pretentious.
