Manly Ocean Beach House

There's something irresistibly romantic about sipping wine and staring at the ocean. This eatery feels like a private beach house, where you can nibble seafood and lazily admire the view.

Editorial

Shake the sand off your feet, leave your towel at the door and snare yourself a table by the open windows. With sunbathers, surfers and seagulls a few feet away, the Manly Ocean Beach House has the same friendly atmosphere of a regular coastal retreat; however, this beach house is the only restaurant that can boast a location upon the Manly Beach promenade. With real estate like this, it's not hard to see why this establishment sits unashamedly content. Inside, the sandy toned dining room is brightened up by the different hues of greens and blues that only the ocean can muster. And with the sea at your side and a vino at your elbow, you'll be settling in for a long lunch or romantic dinner before you can say “seafood platter for two, please.”

The view is achingly beautiful and the menu takes inspiration from its close proximity to the ocean. Begin decadently with a Champagne cocktail and the prawn, crab and ricotta ravioli served with lemon butter, capsicum salsa and spinach. Crispy fried five-spiced soft-shell crab comes with a Thai herb salad and papaya but perhaps you might like to splurge with a half or even a whole Tasmanian crayfish. For the meat-lovers, the Guinness-braised lamb shanks with butter mash and Dutch carrots will please with its fall-off-your-fork succulency. With conversations only interrupted by the crashing waves and the dining room effused with an enjoyable languor, the Manly Ocean Beach House is superb for a wonderful meal with a whole lot of shoreline.

Best food in Manly I reckon - there are a couple of others that are also quite good, but this one is my favorite for the unbeatable views, the delicious breakfasts (although I wished they served breakfast until later on weekends!!) and simple yet elegant beach house vibe. I like how the menu changes seasonally and the cooking is always superb.
