In Situ is a relaxed café by day and turns into a funky live music venue at night, offering a smooth mix of local acts.

Editorial

In Situ is a relaxing little place tucked away from the beach and is perfect for chilling out after a day in the sun. The place is small and funky and without airs, well, apart from those coming straight off the ocean, which is just a block away. There are a few tables out front, while inside offers a cozy area with tables and a small lounge. Check out the cute courtyard out the back too. The whole place has a warm, understated feel to it, but it's perhaps better to enjoy the live music in the evenings - daytime hours tend to attract crowds, and the service can be a bit wanting.

There is a fairly decent wine list, with by the glass options like Knappstean Shiraz or Witchmount Pinot Gris both for $10.50, and the cocktails are popular, if a little on the expensive side. Try something light in summer such as the Soviet Kiss, with Absolut vodka, fresh raspberries, strawberries, lemon, cinnamon and sparkling wine. In winter, go for something more devilish like the El Diablito, with Herradura Reposado tequila, blackcurrant, ginger and citrus.

In-house DJs play lounge and chilled tunes on Friday and Saturday nights. On Sundays you can often catch funk and soul bands, while earlier in the week showcases local singers - giving the place an authentic mellow atmosphere. Best to avoid the crazy breakfasters as it's a bum-fight to get either a table or some service - try In Situ out in the evenings, after one of those lazy Manly days.
