Hugos Manly
Editorial
The problem with Hugos at Manly, is that at some point, you have to leave. The absolute picture-perfect luxury of loitering over a long lunch here and casually letting that slip into dinner is one of Sydney's finer treats. Sure, Sydney is a pretty city, but Hugos Manly takes it to a whole new level.
Hugos has already racked up a several awards, which is impressive given that it only opened in 2009. However, you can rave on about this newcomer winning the Sydney Good Food and Wine 'Best Pizza in NSW' or the Australian Liquor Industry 'Best New Venue in Australia' awards, but really, what we are talking about here is that view. Located on Manly Wharf, with absolute waterfront views of the harbour, this is good drinking ground indeed. Sharing one of their cocktail jugs, perhaps the delightfully dangerous Manly Iced Tea for instance, while watching the sunset is, in a word, sublime.
Hugos' beach-house chic feel is due largely to the use of wood and large windows. Rattan chairs, ottomans and leather bench seats create a stylish, casual and comfortable environment. And for those wishing to drink alfresco, the wrap-around deck is an absolute winner.
As Hugos ticks a lot of boxes, people flock here. On weekends the crowd tends towards label-clad fashionistas, and be prepared to wait for a table. However, weekday lunches are a far more relaxed affair.
There's an ample range of Australia wines with a scattering of Italian varieties as well. To make the most of the experience, leave the car at home and catch a ferry. You'll be glad you did.

Going crazy on Saturday night, the door guy said he would call us when he had a table, he did - what great service. This place is amazing. Great food, good coffee and fantastic service
