The Cross

Drink specials, a host of DJ’s and of course that balcony, is a winning combination for this popular venue.

Editorial

There are Kings Cross locals who have been here for decades who shudder at the ongoing gentrification of this once colourful strip. While there are certainly enough remnants of the old days to still keep certain folk away, bars such as The Cross are attracting a whole new breed.

This bar’s main attraction is that balcony overlooking Macleay Street and Al Alamein Fountain. As I said, there are still enough reminders of the good old days to create an ongoing parade of interesting characters to look at, so The Cross’s vantage point is highly sought after of an evening. For those who prefer the indoors and a more demure setting, then the interior of this bar is for you. Stylish and sleek, The Cross has also managed to combine a relaxed non-pretentious feel that the punters love.

On weekends hoards of twenty something’s gather to party, and yes, this bar slash club is all about the party. A state of the art sound and lighting system as well as a ongoing array of DJ’s keep the dance floor pumping and their impressive cocktail list certainly helps matters. They do a good range of classic cocktails, but, for the adventurous try something like the Tropical Black - Cherries, Kiwi fruit and Premium ‘42 below Vodka’ garnished with a marinated Hibiscus flower – delicious!
