Tatlers

To say Tatlers is for the cool and the elite is understating.

Editorial

Tatlers on Darlinghurst Road has managed to maintain and consistently generate a reputation as one of the most exclusive bars in the city. That's right, and it's not because they host glamorous after parties for the likes of Sean Coombs or similar, or only serve jeroboams of Dom Perignon. In fact, you'll be lucky to get served at all. Tatlers is a mates rating, secret handshaking establishment, where, if you don't personally know the band, the band's girlfriends, or the bar guy, you can forget it. If you get told at the door that there's a 'private party' on, you can assume you haven't made the cut.

But that's not to say an excellent time can't be had. If you do happen to get through stage one (the door), you'll find yourself in a dimly lit, ultra-shabbily chic space filled with a crowd so artistic they make the cast of Moulin Rouge look like investment bankers. And yep, there's a bar. They also have wine and other beverages. But the bar staff will serve you if, when and what they want. Best not to ask more than twice.

You won't find them on the www, and we're pretty sure the listed phone number is forwarded to the world clock. If you don't want to talk about free jazz or abstract landscapes, don't bother. If that's your bag, though, Tatlers is possibly the coolest bar in town.

Haha under 25... forget it?! When I saw the line of simple and trashy dressed and wasted 18something get in on a saturday night I thought: So not my cup of tea! Where are the glory days of Tatlers gone?! (when I used to hang out at this place). And where is the real exclusive club in Sydney? (I'm an mag-editor from Europe).

Tattlers is a tacky cockroach infested dump. Eat there at your own peril. There decor is trashy and the outside area is dirty and littered with old broken chairs and tables. If people from Sydney think this place is good then I suggest they visit some bars in New York and London.

Lost it years ago. I never get denied anywhere as I am usually moving with an entourage of attractive women. I would think twice about this venue even if I was invited to a party there by Russell Brand or Giselle. The management needs a serious rethink by who ever owns the property.
