When it's late at night and you're prowling Sydney, Paddy McGuire's it must be said, is a handy little place to know. You can grab a beer and either dance embarrassingly away in the small indoor bar, complete with dancefloor and cosy booths, or relax with a night cap at the more traditional Irish bar with lighting that enables you to actually see your companion ( good or a bad thing?).
If you forgot to have dinner, the grub is on till late. (Ten points!) Arriving extremely late (it's open till 3am)? The pie stand next door is at the ready. (Twenty points!) The outdoor area is a sunny spot in the day and smack bang on the pavement for a bird's eye view of Haymarkets's trams, wanderers and shoppers. It's immaturely funny to sit here late at night (the challenge has been issued) and watch the tanked night owls of Sydney staggering up to Central Station to miss the last train home.
An Aussie interpretation of the Irish pub, the size and combination of two bars attracts all types and ages, and is not the place to go to catch up on your back log of knitting.
On St Patrick's Day this place will split at the seams but will pack in the people masterfully. Bands play in hourly slots throughout the day and give this unique end of Sydney a party vibe that the Irish really are the experts of. Wear padded clothing and a stupid grin in preparation for the flow of Guinness breathing, mash potato munching, green hat wearing fun makers. Paddy's is ready, even if you're not.

I went here on a Friday night with a group of 20 to celebrate a 30th! Great place in Summer as they have outdoor seating where you can "people watch" whilst enjoying a coldie. Live bands are pretty good too! Not bad.
