Roxbury Hotel
Editorial
Really, what can’t you do at the Roxbury? It’s a veritable smorgasbord of entertainment catering to comedy, music and dancing, and this is a good thing considering Glebe’s eclectic residents.
It’s a fairly slick fit out that isn’t going to dazzle or offend anyone, however, for a comedy venue it is impressive – most comedy venues are places that you would never want to see in broad daylight. The drinks selection is standard; however, there is a good selection of local and imported beers. As mentioned though, there is so much more to do here than just drink.
Wednesdays is their legendary Comedy at The Rox night, incorporating the annual Quest for the Best contest for new comics. A slew of talented, and sometimes not so talented, alight the stage hoping to win the audience and judges over, it can be simultaneously hilarious and gruelling to watch.
The first and third Saturday of the month sees couples strutting their stuff for Swingtime – a night dedicated to the art of swing dancing. For those needing a little help, classes are held on a Tuesday. There’s also plenty of improve nights and the venue can be hired out for music events.
If you’re hungry and on a budget, there’s $4 pasta nights and $7 steak nights – and that’s no joke!
