PJ Gallagher's Drummoyne
Editorial
The dads of Drummoyne’s baby boom have been keeping mum about their cherished secret. Here’s a cosy place that burbles with the sound of happy bar talk and some of the city’s best poured stout. It’s blokey without being inimical to the ladies; it’s traditional without being hokey. It’s a comfy front room for the gents who frequent it. And, of late, it’s become a little more popular than some patrons would prefer.
It was bound to happen. People will get wind of a well- maintained and astutely managed Irish pub; particularly one where the bar staff are not required to wear Leprechaun outfits and chirp “Top of the morning” at the top of their lungs.
From the taps and the cold dream, ales other than Guinness are served. But, there’s something about this aesthetically soothing room that prompts you to order it, in any case.
Very decent pub meals, many with an Irish flavour, are served. The feel of the buzzing kitchen flows over into the pub and imbues all interaction with a homey-but-competent feel. It’s as though a stern but loving matriarch is in control. Perhaps that’s why the kids, welcome in many areas of the pub, tend to behave so well.
