Australian 18 Footers League Club
Editorial
Jutting out over the waters of Double Bay, the Australian 18 Footers League has a delightfully elegant restaurant that encapsulates waterside dining at its best. The panorama stretches over the bay, past the bobbing yachts and out to the big blue beyond, and the floor to ceiling windows frames this vista perfectly. Step into the lounge area for a sunset Alruth cocktail of egg white, gin and Campari and soak up the unobstructed view before making your way to the primly set dining room.
Take inspiration from the surrounding sea and begin with some freshly shucked oysters or some sizzling garlic prawns. For the main event, lamb shanks carbonata are slow cooked with tomato and vegetable sauce while the veal saltimbocca is stuffed with proscuitto and cheese, and cooked in a white wine and sage sauce. There are plenty of deliciously traditional pasta and risotto dishes to choose from or, check the specials board for the seafood catch of the day. The wine list is patriotically Australian with a few splashes of New Zealand here and there, but, you'll be glad to know, all drops are very reasonable priced and marry well with the fare. So, uncork a bottle, open your menu and settle in for a very charming dining experience indeed.
