Name This Bar
Editorial
Whether or not the guiding thought behind Name This Bar was a rather unsubtle publicity stunt, this deceptively-large, ramshackle, ‘we-don’t-care-about-being-cool’ bar is a fun place to drink, if you take off your bohemian wanker hat. Large open doors beckon the after work crowds inside, and whiteboard markers are available so one can scrawl about how much they hate their boss, or something even less sensible.
The idea was that this bar was to be named by a clever patron – who would win a massive bar tab for themselves – but over time the owner noticed that taking away people’s ability to write shit on walls would probably hurt the business. And they were correct, because coming here after work during happy hour (4-7), getting good cheap beer and steamed dumplings and desecrating space is quite the release for anyone.
As a proud whiskey drinker, I was a tad disappointed in a watery Glenfiddich Cooler ($15), but heck, the bartending staff are great here, and put me in a good mood. Amid enjoyable company, this is a great, slightly-Melbourne-y (sorry, had to be said) watering hole. Breeze in, crash on a plump couch, put your drink down on a barrel, and wait for dumpling time. Loads of fun.
